Chandigarh, Mar 7 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will honour Navjot Kaur, the country’s first wrestler to bag a gold in the Asian Wrestling Championship, with a cash award of Rs two lakh.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal gave this assurance to Navjot and her family members when they called on him as well as Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday.
Interacting with Navjot and her family members, Mr Badal said the wrestler’s win would give a boost to wrestling in Punjab and encourage other girls to follow in her footsteps. He commended Navjot for making a comeback into the sport after a major injury and rising to the occasion to win gold for the country.
