SAD strongly condemns lathicharge on teachers in Patiala

Chandigarh, Feb 10 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal has strongly condemned the brutal lathicharge and reckless water cannoning on protesting teachers in Patiala on Sunday in which over two dozen teachers including women have been seriously injured.

In a strong worded statement, the Former Education Minister and the SAD Senior Vice President and spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema described this incident as most unfortunate which speaks volumes about the dictatorial behavior of the Punjab government with its employees who are agitating for their just and genuine demands in a democratic and peaceful way.

Terming the action against the teachers as outcome of negative mindset of the Congress government, Dr Cheema said prior to election, the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had committed moon to the all sections of the society but now what to talk about fulfilling his promises, the Government is not even having the time to give them a patient and sympathetic hearing.

Dr Cheema further said there is no example in the history of Independent India where the two third salary of the employees was taken away forcibly on the pretext of regularization of services of the employees. He said this is totally against the principle of natural justice according to which minimum pay of the employee being drawn on the date of regularization has to be protected at all cost.
Expressing deep sympathy with the agitating teachers, the SAD leader said the party will forcefully raise the issue in the upcoming session of the state Assembly.
