SAD not to fight Delhi Assembly polls: Sirsa

SAD not to fight Delhi Assembly polls: Sirsa

New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and party MLA from Rajouri Garden Manjinder S Sirsa on Monday said that SAD will not fight the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 8.
Addressing the mediapersons, Mr Sirsa said,'SAD and BJP have an old relationship, but after stand by Sukhbir Badal ji on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was to include people from all religions, we decided not to fight these polls.'
'BJP leadership wanted us to reconsider this stand. So, we decided to not fight these polls instead of changing our stand,'Sirsa told reporters here.
'SAD also believes that National Register of Citizens (NRC) should not be implemented. We welcomed CAA but we never demanded that any one religion be excluded from this act,' he said.
'We are also against National Register of Citizens (NRC). We want that there should be no law which makes people stand in queues and prove their credentials. This is a great nation and there is no space for communalism,' he said.
The process of filing of nomination for the candidates which started after issuance of notification on January 14 will close on January 21. The scrutiny will be held on January 22, while withdrawals of candidature will be allowed till January 24.
The results of the Delhi Assembly polls will be declared on February 11.
