Seoul, Nov 13 (UNI) South Korea's navy has launched a fixed-wing drone from a ship for the first time in a bid to advance unmanned aerial vehicle technology, the country's Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday.
Developed by US company General Atomics Aeronautical System Inc, a prototype of the Mojave drone can fly as high as 10,000 feet for about 1.8 miles at a maximum air speed of 140 knots, the report said. Until now, its use has been limited by the need for runways to take off.
On Tuesday, the prototype drone took off from the ROKS Dokdo assault ship and flew over the waters of the East Sea for about an hour before landing safely on a runway in the eastern city of Pohang.
