Rupee strengthens 14 paise against USD

Mumbai, Feb 11 (UNI) Rising for the fifth straight session, rupee on Monday strengthened 14 paise to 71.16 against the US Dollar. The gain recorded against the greenback on increased selling of US Dollars by bankers and importers, dealers at Forex Market said.

Rupee opened at 71.26 a dollar, up by four paise against its previous close of 71.30.

A major fluctuation was seen during the day as it registered day high and low at 71.29 and 71.09, respectively.

The weak dollar against some other currencies overseas and foreign capital inflows in the domestic equity markets supported the rupee, a negative close in domestic equity market capped the gains, they added.

On Friday, the rupee had ended 15 paise higher at 71.30 against the US dollar.
