Ruling party loyalists assault ex-spokesperson of Tripura BJP; political circle condemns attack

Ruling party loyalists assault ex-spokesperson of Tripura BJP; political circle condemns attack

Agartala, Jul 4 (UNI) BJP leader and former Spokesperson of Tripura BJP Prasenjit Chakraborty and two of his family members have been injured seriously in an unprovoked attack yesterday allegedly by his own party cadres.

Besides him, the miscreants assaulted his elder brother and sister badly, destroyed expensive household items ransacked his house and looted valuables including cash in broad daylight.

The incident triggered reaction in political circles while the opposition blamed the ruling BJP for criminal activities across the state when anyone criticizes the misdeeds of the ruling party leaders.

Both the opposition Congress and CPI(M) condemned the incident and demanded inquiry into and immediate arrest of the culprits.

However, BJP has accused CPI (M) behind the attack and alleged Prasenjit has been working for them.

Police said a case has been registered and the investigation was started but no arrest so far.

Meanwhile, the victim alleged Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had sent the criminals, as the attackers while beating him, unconsciously, uttered the name of Deb.

According to reports, Prasenjit Chakraborty had joined BJP sometime in 2014 and started working for the party.

Later, he was elevated as party Spokesperson and at initial stage, he was one of the core members of Biplab Kumar Deb’s team.

Prasenjit was heading BJP’s intellectual cell and actively involved in formation of BJP-IPFT alliance but soon after formation of the government he was dumped by the party.

Recently, he became vocal in social media against alleged misdeeds of BJP party leaders and cadres, corruption, large scale violence, nepotism, disorder, and public sufferings.

Last week, in a video Prasenjit attacked Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP state President Dr Manik Saha accusing of their failure to retain the popularity of the party and the government as well.

On the next day, a group of miscreants attacked his house and warned him to stop his online media activities against the Chief Minister and BJP party.

He reported the matter to police and wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Saha describing the details and asked for his security.

A temporary police picket was installed in front of his house but he did not stop speaking on the social media against the party and the government.

Chakraborty alleged an hour before the attack policemen on duty were removed without prior intimation and the miscreants in mask and headgear with sticks stormed the house in the late noon.

They broke furniture, including TV sets, computers, and looted mobile phones and wallets from the house when another group was assaulting Prasenjit.

While trying to save him his ailing elder brother Prabir Chakraborty (55) suffered a mild stroke and his elder sister was injured.

The attackers fled away when neighbours assembled and resisted the criminals.

Before leaving, Prasenjit's perpetrators threatened to kill him if he continued speaking against the Chief Minister and the BJP, he alleged, adding, “Tripura BJP is being run by non-BJP idealists and defaming the great soul of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Biplab Kumar Deb is running the government with the help of some contractors who are looting the public exchequer.”
