Panaji, Nov 27 (UNI) RTI activist Rajan Ghate, who was on fast-unto-death at Azad Maidan in the city for the last 11 days, was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Monday evening for medical check-up.
The activist has been on the strike since November 16 demanding full time Chief Minister in the state. He had also demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar distributes portfolios with him among other ministers considering his ill health.
Mr Ghate was taken to GMC as he refused to break his fast. Though he was requested by Congress and Shiv Sena leaders to break his fast.
Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar has announced that he would sit on a day-long fast to express his solidarity with Mr Ghate.
In a statement, he said,'Things in Goa are going from bad to worst. RTI activist Rajan Ghate has been on the fast unto death for last 11 days, and the State government is not moving an inch showing its arrogance, inhuman, carelessness and selfish behaviour. To join hands with Shri Rajan Ghate and the cause of Goans, I have decided to sit on a one-day-long Satyagraha at Azad Maidan in Panaji, along with him .'
He said while supporting the demand for working Chief Minister for Goa, he was equally concerned about Chief Mininster's health as he was battling with dreaded illness for his life.
'It is my personal feeling that the CM should give up his adamancy at the influence of his cronies and I also believe that Rajan Ghate should rethink and give up his fast to death in the interest of his family and Goa. Lives of both Mr Parrikar and Mr Ghate are precious for Goa. This struggle is to restore parliamentary democracy and governance in Goa. The demand is from people of Goa and not just from the Congress as an opposition party. I will fast for a day with an Agrah for this Satya, on Tuesday, 27 November, from 10 am to 6 pm,' Mr Chodankar said.
