RS concerned over rising thefts on trains; Min says 2 mn CCTVs to be installed

New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) Even as House of Elders on Friday expressed concern at the increasing thefts, burglary and drugging on passenger trains, Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal said the government was aware of such incidents especially as some of the criminals buy tickets and pose as passengers.
He said this year there had been 19 cases of drugging in Northern Railway, 10 in North-Central, 23 incidents in North-Eastern Railway which were connected to Delhi.
The Minister expressed his helplessness in taking preventive measures against such crimes especially if culprits enter trains as passengers but said this year the government was planning to install 2 million CCTV cameras which will cover all passenger trains, all railway stations, railway offices and colonies. For now cameras are installed at 394 railway stations.
