RS adjourned Sine Die ahead of schedule

New Delhi, Sep 23(UNI) Rajya Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned Sine Die ahead of schedule following concern over rising number of Covid-19 cases.
The session is being concluded eight sittings ahead of the 18 planned sittings as COVID-19 pandemic continues.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Venkaiah Naidu complemented officials of Parliament, CPWD and other agencies for helping to hold the session amid the pandemic.

'The session is being concluded eight sittings ahead of the 18 planned sittings as COVID-19 pandemic continues. We made many rearrangements, like working on the weekends, having proceedings from six locations.


'I was worried about how my members will get used to these new arrangement. I had to do two mock sittings to get used to it," the Chairman said.


The Chairman said that in the ten sittings, 25 bills were passed and 6 bills introduced.

'3.15 hours were lost due to disruptions in this session. However, the lost time was made up for by sitting for extra time,' the Chairman said.

He said that 57 per cent of total functional time of the House was spent on government legislative business. He said that the high productivity of the previous sessions continued this time too.


After his concluding remarks, the Chairman called for playing the National songs. He then adjourned the House Sine die.


'The House is adjourned Sine Die, 'he said.
