Rs 10,000 cr Chinese investment under 'Make in India': Govt

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Chinese investment under 'Make in India' project has been nearly Rs 10,000 crore, out of which it was 1,696 crore (as on December 2016) in the financial year 2016-17, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply said, 'Chinese companies have shown significant interest in India in a number of sectors since the launch of 'Make in India' campaign and the cumulative inflows from China from April 2000 to December 2016 was Rs 9,933.87 crore.' Further elaborating, she said during 2014-15, the FDI was Rs 3,066 crore while in 2015-16, it was Rs 2,975 crore. She also said on June 30, 2014, the concerned Ministries from both India and China signed MoU in Beijing on cooperation on Industrial Parks in India. Pursuant thereto, Joint Working Group (JWG) of the Indian side was constituted on July 16, 2014 to act as the nodal point to identify and agree upon the detailed modalities for implementing cooperation under the said agreement, and to periodically review progress and three JWG meetings have so far been held in this regard. She said the last meeting of JWG was held on November 2, 2016 at Beijing, China. It was decided during the meeting that both sides would encourage all stakeholders to expedite the implementation for which all necessary facilitation would be provided. UNI MKS AE 1901
