Ross Taylor overtakes Stephen Fleming to become Kiwis' highest run-scorer in ODIs

Ross Taylor overtakes Stephen Fleming to become Kiwis' highest run-scorer in ODIs

Dunedin, Feb 20 (UNI) The right-hand batsman Ross Taylor added another feather to his cap as he surpassed former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming’s One Day International's (ODI) tally of 8,007 runs to become the highest run-getter for his country in the third and the final ODI against Bangladesh at Dunedin on Wednesday.
During the course his 64 runs innings, he also became the second Kiwi batsman to score 8,000 runs in the format of the game. Now, he has become the fourth -fastest batsman to reach the 8,000 run mark in ODI, only behind Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Sourav Ganguly.
He also holds the record of more ODI centuries and half-centuries from New Zealand.
However, one milestone still eludes him. With Fleming having turned out not just for New Zealand, but for the ICC World XI during his ODI career, his overall ODI runs tally sits at 8,037, an agonising 11 runs clear of where Taylor ended his innings. With the fixtures against Bangladesh set to be New Zealand's last international engagements before this summer's Men's Cricket World Cup, it might be that Taylor has to wait until gracing the grandest stage of all to finally break Fleming's record.
