Rohit prevails over Mazhar on day 1, Shiva Thapa, Ashish Kumar to participate at Nationals

Baddi (Solan), Oct 4 (UNI) The 4th Elite Men’s Boxing National Championship started with much fanfare with 309 boxers from 39 teams participating at Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology, Himachal Pradesh on Friday with the likes of star boxers Shiva Thapa and Ashish Kumra to play at Nationals.
The most exciting bout of the day was played between Maharashtra’s Rohit Chavan and Bengal’s Mazhar Hussain in 60kg. Both the boxers fought neck and neck throughout the 3 rounds but Rohit prevailed at the end with a 3-2 verdict.
Among the other key bouts of the day; podium finishers from last year, Haryana started the day with a win as Sahil defeated Varun Phaartyal of Uttarakhand in the 60Kg category with a unanimous verdict.
