Rohingyas affected by rain, says UNHCR

Dhaka, June 13 ( UNI) Nearly 2,500 Rohingya families, comprising eleven thousand people have been affected by torrential rains accompanied by storms in Bangladesh, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson said at a press briefing.
District officials told UNI that a child was dead and several people were injured in landslides caused by storms at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.
"The first heavy rains of the year swept through Rohingya settlements this weekend, marking the start of monsoon season. This is an early test for refugees and humanitarian agencies working to support the government of Bangladesh on the response efforts," UNHCR spokesperson Andrej Mahecic said.
