Road deck of Saraighat Bridge to be closed for repairs for 90 days

Guwahati, Dec 28 (UNI) Following cracks on the concrete surface of the Saraighat Rail-cum-Road Bridge over the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati, the road deck of the bridge would be closed for vehicular traffic for three months for carrying out repairs.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which is in-charge of the bridge, sources said here today that repair work for the road deck has been allotted to an agency in November and work will commence soon.
For repairing to be carried out vehicular traffic is to be stopped for 90 days, as the process will have multiple stages requiring fixing of new high strength steel and high strength concrete. In this connection the traffic department and local administration have been contacted and it is likely that repairing work will be allowed after Magh Bihu (mid-January), an NFR source said.
