Road accident claims four lives in TN

Thoothukudi, Jan 18 (UNI) Four persons, including two women were killed when a car in which they were travelling collided head on with a lorry on the railway over bridge near SIPCOT Industrial Complex on the Thoothukudi-Madurai highway here on Saturday, police said.

The deceased were identified as A Ramya (17), her brother A Virendran (15), their friend V Barghavi (23) and the car driver Joevin Remigious (29), all hailing from Chennai.

They were proceeding to Tiruchendur on a pilgrimage, when the tragedy occurred, police further said.

The rail over bridge is being used for one way traffic for the past several years as road widening work is not yet completed.

A case was registered and the lorry driver Chandrasekhar was arrested for negligent and rash driving, police added.
