Retail inflation spikes to 3.99 per cent in September

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) India's Consumer Price Index for September stood at 3.99 per cent as compared to 3.21 per cent in August, according to data released by the government on Monday.
The price rise in the food basket was recorded at 5.11 per cent in September, as against 2.99 per cent in the preceding month, data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed.
August Consumer Price Index (CPI) has been revised to 3.28 per cent vs 3.21 per cent provisional.
Retail inflation has increased to 3.99 per cent in September, mostly due to higher prices of food items.
Food and beverages inflation stood at 4.7 per cent while Pan, tobacco and intoxicants inflation stood at 4.59 per cent and clothing and footwear at 0.96 per cent.
Housing inflation stood at 4.75 per cent and Fuel and Light at (-)2.18 per cent.
The inflation print for vegetables shot up to 15.40 per cent during the month.
