New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) The Indian Navy tableau on Republic Day will showcase the naval uprising of 1846 which contributed in India's struggle for Independence.
"The forward part of the tableau depicts the Naval uprising of 1946, an event which contributed in India's struggle for Independence. The rear section of the tableau illustrates the Make in India initiatives of Navy particularly for the period 1983 to 2021," said Lt Mayank Bhagour, an Aviation Officer at INS Rajali.
The 1846 naval uprising started as a strike on February 18 in protest of living conditions and food. It was an insurrection of Indian naval ratings, soldiers, police personnel and civilians against the British. From Bombay the revolt spread and found support throughout British India from Karachi to Calcutta involving over 20,000 sailors, many ships and shore establishments.
