Reports of approval of maternity leave incentive scheme incorrect: WCD Ministry

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Denying reports of approval /notification of the proposed maternity leave incentive scheme by the Labour ministry wherein seven weeks’ wages would be reimbursed to employers who employ women workers with wage ceiling upto Rs. 15000/- and provide the maternity benefit of 26 weeks paid leave, the Ministry for women and child development on Friday clarified that the Ministry of Labour and Employment is in the process of obtaining necessary budgetary grant and approvals of Competent Authorities.
‘’There are some media reports that this Scheme has been approved/notified. However, it is clarified that Ministry of Labour & Employment is in the process of obtaining necessary budgetary grant and approvals of Competent Authorities.’’the Ministry said in a statement.
It also termed as ‘incorrect’ reports that the scheme will be funded from Labour Welfare Cess.
