Kolkata, Jun 29 (UNI) Renowned singer Sabita Chowdhury passed away this morning in her residence. She was 72 and survived by four children. Sabita, wife of legendary music composer Salil Chowdhury, died at around 0205 hours this morning. She was diagnosed with cancer in her lungs and thyroid last year. Initially she was taken to Mumbai for treatment but brought back to the city in the month of May. On the basis of her wish, she was undergoing treatment at her house itself. All cremation rites and rituals would be completed today, her daughter Antara Chowdhury said. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the passing of popular singer Sabita Chowdhury. “Saddened at the passing of popular singer Sabita Chowdhury (wife of Salil Chowdhury). My condolences to her family, friends and fans,” Ms Banerjee tweeted. Sabita, born in 1945, had made a landmark in the world of music. Several of her songs are still famous till date. The singer had worked as playback singer for both Hindi and Bengali movies. She has many hit numbers which she played and the words and lyrics were by her husband. Sabita has left behind her 4 children who are Antara, Sanchari, Sanjay and Bobby. MORE UNI BM
