Renowned poet Viren Dangwal passes away in Bareilly

Bareilly, Sep 28(UNI) Renowned Hindi poet and Sahitya Academy awardee Viren Dangwal died here today after a prolonged illness. He was 68.
Mr Dangwal, who was also a successful journalist, had recently shifted base to Bareilly after a three-year stay in New Delhi . He was admitted to the SRMS hospital here on September 21.
The poet is survived by his widow and two sons. He was also a professor of Hindi and worked as a journalist for several years. He was also associated with the editorial board of Hindi daily Amarujjala group. and taught Hindi at Bareli college from 1974 to 2010.
His famous write up was 'Kavi Ne kaha' besides his collection ' Dushchakra me Shrista' earned him the Sahitya Academy award in 2004 and Shamsher Samman in 2002.
In 1992, he got the Raghuveer Sahay Smriti Award for his poem Duniya. In 1993, he received the Srikant Verma Smriti Award.
The last rites of the poet would be performed here this afternoon. Meanwhile, UP minister Minister of State for Small Scale Industries and Export Promotion Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar, former deputy speaker of the UP Assembly and BJP MLA Rajesh Agarwal along with several UP ministers, political leaders and poets have expressed their grief over his demise.
