Renault to cut 14,600 jobs worldwide

Paris, May 29(UNI) French carmaker Renault announced on Friday that it would have to cut around 15,000 jobs worldwide in the wake of slump in car sales.
The company said that it is launching talks with unions so as to restructure some plants and if need be close others.
Facing a downturn in demand, that has been further intensified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Renault aims to save 2 billion euros over the next three years as it downsizes production and hones in on more profitable models.
Within France itself 4,600 jobs may be affected by way of retraining and internal mobility measures and voluntary departures the statement by Renault said.
Renault plans to reduce its global production capacity to 3.3 million vehicles by 2024 from the current 4 million by suspending capacity increase projects in Morocco and Romania and adjusting capacity in Russia.
