New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Hours after Congress President Rahul Gandhi suggestively used strong words like 'thief' for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP on Saturday launched blistering attack against the grand old party and said Gandhi family itself has been a 'source' of corruption in the country.
BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here that contrary to the baseless allegations made by Congress President, Reliance Industries was 'selected' by Dassault Aviation way back in 2012 when Congress-led UPA was in power.
"It came in media reports that way back in 2012 there was negotiation with Reliance. In February 2013 it was reported in media much before we came to power in 2014," Mr Prasad said ridiculing why Rahul Gandhi is raising fingers at the NDA regime now.
"There is contemporary evidence available that the proper MoU existed between Reliance and Dassault," the Union Minister said.
BJP leader said: "Mr Rahul Gandhi, the shameful and irresponsible statement made by you is not being believed by the people of India. Yeh ek aisa parivar hae joh brashtachar ki janani hae (It's a family which is the source of corruption in India)".
The BJP leader's remarks came shortly after Mr Gandhi made a personal attack against Prime Minister Modi.
"For the first time probably in Indian history, an ex-French President is calling our Prime Minister a thief," Mr Gandhi said at a press conference.
Mr Prasad said the BJP had no better expectation from Rahul Gandhi in his conduct. "Congress president has attacked Prime Minister, so far no president of a national party has used such words against an incumbent Prime Minister".
The Minister said Mr Gandhi has 'no capability' and is sitting in the top position just because of his family background.
The saffron party raked up Bofors and various other corruption cases against Robert Vadra and others and maintained such strong words were being used against the Prime Minister by a leader who is himself 'chargesheeted'.
He said it was the Congress party which allowed Ottavio Quattrocchi, who was linked to Bofors defence scandal, to flee India.
