Release political prisoners as goodwill gesture on R-Day, demand Ex J&K Ministers

Jammu, Jan 23 (UNI) Asserting that there is a tradition of releasing some prisoners lodged in jails on Republic Day, former Ministers Dilawar Mir and Ghulam Hassan Mir on Thursday demanded release of political prisoners as goodwill gesture.
"We want that exercise of releasing political prisoners including three former chief ministers should be initiated especially as "Goodwill gesture" on Republic Day," Ghulam Hassan Mir flanked by Mr Dilawar Mir here told reporters at a press conference.
The former Minister further said, "since August 5, many political leaders including three former chief ministers were detained and put under house arrest but as Republic Day is nearing, there is a tradition that some people lodged in jails are released," adding, "let nobody remain under detention as "goodwill gesture" on this Republic Day."
"Recently the former Ministers and legislators in individual capacity met the Lieutenant Governor and submitted charter of demands including internet snapping issue, falling economy of Jammu and Kashmir, employment and above all was release of political prisoners," he added.
"After meeting the LG, many positive developments started taking place and as a part of it, some political detainees were also released but not all," said Mr Dilawar Mir.
He added that if there are any, who cannot be released due to security concerns, the matter can be taken under consideration but the youth who are lodged in outside jails, can be set free.
Meanwhile, the former legislators further said that the government has restored 2G mobile internet service but it is of no use and should be restored completely.
"Media fraternity, traders, businessmen, tax payers, bankers, students are worst affected due to snapped internet service and they should at least be exempted from such curbs and be given access to the facility," the duo expressed.
They said that all these demands should be considered on the Republic day.
The former Ministers further added that they also appeal to the Government of India to safeguard jobs and land in Jammu and Kashmir and also issue a domicile certificate.
On Article 370 Abrogation they refused to comment saying that the matter is sub judice in the Supreme Court.
However, on visit of 36 Union Ministers, they said that let them visit and see what is actually happening on ground.
Meanwhile, they denied the speculations of any formation of third front and said, "we met LG in individual capacity and no third front is coming up."
The leaders said that the Government of India no doubt played a key role in Kashmir post August 5 and no single civilian death was reported in the valley but people of Kashmir also exercise restraint because they do not believe in violence.
"If SC restored Art 370, it is good but if not, the situation will remain the same and life will move on," he said and said that people of Jammu was also hit by Art 370 Abrogation.
Mr Dilawar Mir on expulsion from the PDP said, "the PDP chief (Mehbooba Mufti) is under house arrest and also other senior leaders, then who expelled me after I met the LG as an individual."
"I am still a PDP man but addressing this conference as individual and we met the LG to raise the concerns of the people," he added.
They also said that Government of India must take cognizance of genocide of Kashmiri Hindus and they should return to Valley.

Inaugurating the Serendipity Lakes and Resort in Tamia near Patalkot, a well-known travel destination in Chhindwara district, he said, “Investors shall be encouraged in the touristry sphere. With the opening of this retreat, people of our state and other parts of the country will become familiar vis-a-vis the area’s speciality. Regional culture shall develop and local products will receive a wide market. A Cabinet meeting shall be conducted in Tamia in the near future. Small entrepreneurs of the area will be encouraged. My dispensation shall encourage other ventures also to enhance economic activities.”
