Regional office of NHDC in Hyderabad to continue to function: Smriti Irani

Hyderabad, Aug 15 (UNI) Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irnai has assured that the Regional Office of National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) Hyderabad would continue to function as it has been functioning for many years without any change in its status.

Ms Smriti Iranai reacted about when Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy has taken up the matter related to the change of status of the Regional Office of NHDC at Hyderabad, Telangana with her, a statement here said on Saturday.

The issue related to shifting of Regional Office situated in the Minister’s Parliamentary constituency in Telangana State to another State coupled with changing the status of the office from “Regional Office” to “Branch Office” was brought to the knowledge of the Union Minister of Textiles by Mr Kishan Reddy.

It was also put forth cogently by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs to the Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Chairman NHDC that the move of swapping of the roles of the offices would mean, inter alia, affecting the financial and operational powers of NHDC Hyderabad which have led to different apprehensions among the various stakeholders of the handloom sector from the State of Telangana and requested the Ministry to maintain status quo ante in order to safeguard the interests of the weaving community.

Responding positively and favourably to the issue Ms Smriti Zubin Irani assured Mr Kishan Reddy that the Regional Office of NHDC at Hyderabad would continue to function as it has been functioning for many years without any change in its status.

Mr Kishan Reddy thanked the Textiles Minister for addressing this genuine concern of the people, the statement added.
