Ranji Trophy: Odisha, J&K reach quarterfinals

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir, along with Odisha, entered the quarterfinals, while Gujarat continued their unbeaten run as the Round IX of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 concluded on Saturday.

the recently-made Union Territory made it to the quarterfinals of Ranji Trophy, despite suffering a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Haryana in their final Group C match, as they finished on top of the group with 39 points.

Haryana's lower-order played a vital role, as they beat Jammu and Kashmir by two wickets, to cap off the season with one victory.

Needing 224 runs to win, Haryana were 119/7. But Rohit Sharma, who scored 75, Jayant Yadav, scoring 13 and Rahul Tewatia, scoring 27*, helped Haryana to cross the finish line.

Odisha also advanced to the knockout stage as the second-placed team from the group, with 38 points, following a draw in their final fixture against Jharkhand.

In Cuttack, the Odisha versus Jharkhand game ended in a draw, with the former picking up three points on the back of their first-innings lead.

After scoring 436 in the first innings, Odisha secured a lead of 80 runs. In the second innings, Odisha scored 187/1.

While skipper Subhransu Senapati scored an unbeaten hundred, Debasish Samantray, who had scored 156 in the first innings, scored 64*, before the team shook hands.

Gujarat, meanwhile, continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing edition of the tournament. The Parthiv Patel-led side registered their sixth win from nine matches as they beat Andhra by eight wickets to bag six points.

Axar Patel, who had scalped five wickets at the close of the third day's play, added two more wickets to his account as Gujarat bowled out Andhra for 258 and then chased down the 30-run target in 9.5 overs.

Himachal Pradesh did not take more than a session on the fourth day to complete a win over Uttar Pradesh. While Vaibhav Arora picked up five wickets, Rishi Dhawan got three wickets as Himachal Pradesh sealed a 386-run win to bag six points.
