Ramanathan/Raja enter doubles final; Ramanathan loses in singles

Chandigarh, Nov 9 (UNI) India pair of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Purav Raja moved into men's doubles final by disposing of the challenge of Japanese pair of Toshihide Matsui and Yosuke Watanuki in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the $54,160 Hyogo Noah Challenger in Kobe (Japan).

However, Ramanathan made his exit from singles after being beaten by second seed Japanase Yuichi Suhita in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in quarter-final in one hour and 11 minutes on Friday. Ramanathan earned $1460 and 15 ATP points.

In singles, Ramanathan kept his first service 58 per cent in and fired as many as 12 aces, while committed three double faults. He saved four of nine break points and won two out of four break points. The Japanese saved two out of four break points and won five of nine break points.

Sugita played a consistent game and kept his first service 65 per cent in and served a lone ace and committed two double faults.

Doubles (semi-final): Ramkumar Ramanathan/Purav Raja bt Toshihide Matsui/ Yosuke Watanuki (Japan) 6-3, 6-4.

Singles (q-final): Yuchi Sugita (Japan) bt Ramkumar Ramanathan (India) 6-2, 6-3.
