Chandigarh, Nov 5 (UNI) Indian ninth seed Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated Japanese Jumpei Yamasaki of Japan in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and six minutes in the singles second round match in the $54,160 Hyogo Noah Challenger in Kobe (Japan).
Ramkumar Ramanathan fired eight aces and committed two double faults. He saved one of two break points and won four out of 13 break points. The Indian player kept 53 per cent of his first service in.
Yamasaki served two aces and commited one double fault. His first service was 70 per cent in. He saved nine out of 13 break points and won one out of two break points.
After breaking Yamasaki in the first and third games of the first set took a 3-0 lead. He rallied brilliantly and won 4th, fifth and sixth games to level the score to 3-3. Ramanathan got another break in the ninth game and won the set at 6-4.
In the second set, Ramkumar Ramanathan broke his rival's service in the first, third and fifth games to clinch the set at 6-1 and wrapped the match.
Ramkumar's opponent in pre-quarter-final will be eighth seed Jay Clarke of who beat Ryota Tanuma of Japan by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
