Rajnath reviews security arrangement for Amarnath Yatra

Rajnath reviews security arrangement for Amarnath Yatra

New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday reviewed the security arrangement for forthcoming Amarnath Yatra which begins on 28th June.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police Chief SP Vaid were present at the meeting here. Later, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat also joined the meeting.

Mr Singh discussed the deployment of the security forces at various levels in the route of the pilgrimage. He instructed the security stakeholders to make foolproof multi-layer security arrangement.

“In view of last year's terrorist attack on pilgrim's bus, the authorities have planned multi-layered security arrangements. Tracking of pilgrims' movement through satellites, installation of jammers, CCTV cameras and bullet-proof bunkers, deployment of dog squads and quick reaction teams will be part of the security drill along pilgrimage routes”, a senior Home Ministry official said.

Last year on July 10, nine Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 19 others were injured when terrorists attacked a bus in Anantnag which was ferrying them back to Jammu.

“Around 40 thousand police personnel both from Jammu and Kashmir Police and para-military forces will be deployed along with the entire route for almost two months”, the official added.

The Home Minister was also briefed about the other facilities like drinking water health facilities and rest camps along the routes.
