Rajnath leads govt charge against Rahul after SC ruling giving clean chit on Rafale

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Days after facing a major electoral jolt, the ruling dispensation on Friday got a boost after the Supreme Court dismissed all petitions on Rafale deal and the spirit was reflected on the floor of the Lok Sabha with Home Minister Rajnath Singh leading the charge in attacking the Congress, and demanded that Rahul Gandhi tender an apology to the House and the nation.
'They have misled the country and also presented India in poor light across the globe. That is why I want to emphasise that Congress president Rahul Gandhi should tender an apology to the House and the nation,' Mr Singh said making a brief intervention amid uproarious scenes and slogan shouting.
He said the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court in its verdict said that 'It (Rafale deal) is a financial advantage to the nation and also that there was no scope to raise any technical question on Rafale deal.'
The remarks of the Home Minister came shortly after the House reconvened after first adjournment.
Earlier, during Question Hour, BJP members including Nishikant Dubey said in view of the Supreme Court order dismissing all the petitions seeking a court-monitored investigation into the Rafale deal, the onus is now on the Congress leadership and its president to tender an "apology".
"Rahul Gandhi Maafi mango..(Rahul Gandhi, please tender apology)," several members shouted repeatedly.
As soon as the House reassembled at 12 noon, BJP members Anurag Thakur, Ganesh Singh, Prahlad Joshi and Sanjay Jaiswal also were heard saying 'Rahul Gandhi maafi maango'.
However, Congress members including Gaurav Gogoi, Ranjeet Ranjan and Ravneet Singh trooped into the Well insisting that the Rafale deal inked by the Modi government by France had its faultline and there was need for a JPC probe.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also seemed to support the contentions of his party colleagues and said, "Rahul Gandhi has misled the country on Rafale all along and thus he should tender an apology".
"The Congress party should also tender apology," he said.
After Home Minister made his observation on the Supreme Court verdict, Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge also wanted to have his say but Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said if the Opposition members wanted any discussion on the issue, they can give notice.
Amid pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
