Rajini will fill political vacuum in TN : Alagiri

Chennai, Nov 14 (UNI) Expelled DMK leader and Former
Union Minister M K Alagiri today said Tamil superstar
Rajinikanth will fill the political vacuum in Tamilnadu.
Talking to reporters at the airport here, Mr Alagiri,
who arrived here from Madurai, refused to answer
questions on the DMK, which was now headed by
his younger brother M K Stalin.
''I am not a member of the party,'' he said, to a
question on the DMK.
Asked about Rajinikanth's recent remarks that a
quality leadership vacuum exists in the State, he
said ''what he said is true. He will fill the vacuum.''
A couple of days ago, Mr Alagiri met BJP National
Secretary H Raja at Karaikudi, where also he had
refused to answer to questions about the DMK.
Rajini, who had confirmed his political entry by
stating that he would contest all the 234 Assembly
seats in the State in the 2021 elections, but was
yet to launch his own party, had on Friday last
said there was still a vacuum for a good leadership
in the State.
He also said ''attempts were being made to paint
him and Saint Tiruvalluvar with saffron.
'Neither me nor poet Thiruvalluvar will succumb to
it'', Rajini said in an apparent taunt to the BJP.
Countering the remarks, the ruling AIADMK said
there was no leadership vaccum in the State (after
the death of two tall leaders Ms J Jayalalithaa and
Mr M Karunanidhi) and that it was filled by Chief
Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
The Opposition DMK on its part said Rajini was talking
without knowing the political climate in the State and
said the vacuum was already filled by Mr Stalin.
Mr Palaniswami, also had a dig at both Rajini and
actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam Founder
Kamal Haasan and sought to know ''if they claim
there is a political vacuum in the state, then why
they did not contest in the recent Assembly bypolls
to Nanguneri and Vikravandi seats.
''Kamal is a ‘tall leader’: how many votes did he get
in the May Lok Sabha polls'', he asked.
''Everyone knew what happened when Thespian
Sivaji Ganesan started a political party and faced
the elections. He (Kamal Hassan) will face a similar
fate'', Mr Palaniswami said.
