Jaipur, Aug 14 (UNI) The Rajasthan Assembly, convened for an urgent session, was adjourned till 1300 hrs on Friday after several members failed to reach owing to heavy rainfall since morning and water logging at several places.
The ruling Congress gave a notice for no confidence motion to the business committee of the House which could be taken up as it resumes.
On Thursday, Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party demanded the motion as it believed that the ruling government was not in majority anymore in 200-member Assembly.
As per the House rules, if ruling party wins the no confidence motion, then it cannot be taken again for at least six months.
As per a norm, the Congress issued a whip to all its 101 members to vote in favour of party while the BJP asked its 72 MLAs to vote against the ruling the government.
Surprisingly, Bahujan Samaj Party, late on Thursday night, issued a whip asking all its six MLAs to vote against the Congress. The six MLAs had merged with Congress after Assembly polls in 2018. But their merger made BSP chief Mayawati unhappy and accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of poaching her MLAs.
Meanwhile, as the day began, Mr Gehlot affirmed that his government would emerge victorious.
"As the Legislative Assembly session begins today, it would be the victory of the people of #Rajasthan and the unity of our Congress MLAs, it would be a victory of truth: Satyamev Jayate (sic)," the chief minister wrote on his twitter handle.
Former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot was seen entering the House. He just greeted the mediapersons with a 'namaste'. On Thursday evening, he shook hands with Mr Gehlot at the Chief Minister's residence and confirmed the truce between them. Both had parted ways last month over certain disagreements.
Senior Rajasthan leader and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje stepped inside the House. On Thursday, she met Governor Kalraj Mishra. As per sources, she conveyed to the Governor that reports about discord within the BJP are just rumours and her House was in order.
In the present Assembly, Congress has 107 MLAs, while BJP has 72. Thirteen independents, two MLAs each from the CPI(M) and the Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP), and one from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) have supported the Congress.
