Raj campaign trail: Modi invokes Kartarpur corridor issue

Raj campaign trail: Modi invokes Kartarpur corridor issue

Hanumangarh, Dec 4 (UNI) Invoking the Kartarpur corridor issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Indian National Congress and asserted that his destiny has been to fix the grand old party’s wrongs.
At an rally here for the December 7 polls, the Premier alleged that the Congress party did not take care of Sikh community’s sentiments at the time of partition and let Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara go to Pakistan.
'My destiny has been to fix the wrongs of the Congress. The holy work of Kartarpur Gurudwara has also come to me. We should ask the Congress, why they had let Kartarpur go to Pakistan at the time of Partition. Had the Congress paid a little bit of attention, Kartarpur Gurudwara, which is just 3 kilometres away, would have been in India. We should also ask the Congress why they had not got the corridor built in the last 70 years,' Mr Modi said.
He affirmed that the simple reason that Kartarpur was in Pakistan was because the Congress leaders in 1947 had no idea about the importance of Guru Nanak Dev for the Sikh community.
The foundation stone for the much-awaited corridor linking Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib - the final resting place of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev - to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Gurdaspur district was laid last week.
Counting of votes for the single-phase poll in the former princely state will take place on December 11 along with Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram.
