Raj Assembly polls: 10-12 pc voting till 1000 hrs

Jaipur, Dec 7 (UNI) An estimated 10-12 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1000 hrs on Friday in the Rajasthan Assembly polls.
The polling, which began at 51,687 polling stations spread over 199 Assembly constituencies in the state at 0800 hrs, was progressing by and large peacefully.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, her predecessor Ashok Gehlot, Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria and Congress state president Sachin Pilot were among early voters.
While Ms Raje exercised her franchise around 0830 hrs in Jhalawar, Mr Gehlot cast his vote in Jodhpur shortly after 0900 hrs. Before casting vote at a Udaipur rural booth, Mr Kataria performed puja.
Meanwhile, a clash between supporters of the BJP nominee in Kolayat-Bikaner, Poonam Kanwar Bhati and her Congress rival Bhanwar Singh Bhati was reported. The violent groups tried to set fire to a vehicle in Jaggasar area.
Minor dispute was also reported at a booth in Pokaran Assembly constituency in Jaisalmer.
Besides, glitches in EVMs at some booths in Jodhpur, Ganganagar, Alwar and Udaipur districts also hindered polling for some time.
A total of 47.43 million electorate are expected to decide the fate of 2274 contestants, including 187 women.
Notable among them are Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje(BJP-Jhalrapatan), former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot (Congress-Sardarpura), Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria (Udaipur), Congress State President Sachin Pilot (Tonk), Congress nominee former Union Ministers Dr CP Joshi(Nathdwara), Dr Girija Vyas (Udaipur), former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's son-in-law Narpat Singh Rajvi (BJP-Vidhyadhar-Jaipur), former Union Minister Jaswant Singh's son Manvendra Singh(Congress-Jhalrapatan), Ghanshyam Tiwari (Sanganer-BVP) and Hanuman Beniwal (Khimsar-RLMP).
