Kolkata, Aug 18 (UNI) The torrential rains that pounded parts of Bengal this weekend may have inconvenienced people, but it has come as a boon for the Agriculture Department.
With almost 95 per cent of the sowing expected to be completed by tomorrow, the rains have been a harbinger of good tidings, according to department officials.
Some south Bengal districts experienced a severe dearth of rainfall this year, with an overall 50 per cent deficit. The scant rainfall led to minimum storage of water in the dams, causing concern to state officials.
