Railways distributes 85L free meals and 1.25 cr water bottles to 50 lakh migrants Shramik Specials

New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) Reacting to several migrants' claims that neither water nor food was served to them on trains, Indian Railways on Thursday said it has distributed more than 85 lakh free meals and about 1.25 crore free water bottles to migrants travelling in Shramik Special trains since May 1.
This included meals being prepared by Indian Railways’ PSU IRCTC and distributed by Zonal Railways. In addition to food and water bottles being provided to travelling migrants in all Shramik Special trains, IRCTC was providing puri vegetable pickle, roti vegetable pickle, banana, biscuits, cake, biscuit namkeen, cake namkeen, veg pulao, pao bhaji, lemon rice pickle, upma, poha and pickle kind of meals to travelling migrants along with Rail Neer water bottles.
As on date, 3,736 Shramik Special trains have been operationalised from various states across the country. Of them, 979 originated from Gujarat, followed by Maharashtra (695), Punjab (397), Uttar Pradesh (263) and Bihar (263). The top five states where maximum trains terminated were Uttar Pradesh (1,520), Bihar (1,296), Jharkhand (167), Madhya Pradesh (121), Odisha (139).
On Wednesday 172 Shramik Specials were originated.
In addition to Shramik specials, Railways are running 15 pairs of special trains connecting New Delhi and plans to start 200 more time tabled trains from June 1.

For the first time, IFFCO records the highest ever net profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 1005 crore during the last fiscal year 2019-20. It also posted the highest ever sales of fertilisers for 133 lakh tonnes despite the difficult and random market and weather conditions.
