Rahul, Priyanka pay tributes to former PM Rajiv Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi here on his birth anniversary.
Rahul and Priyanka along with Robert Vadra paid floral tributes to the former PM at his memorial.
Among others, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shaktisinh Gohil also paid homage to the former PM.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi was not present as she tested positive for Covid-19 recently, and recuperating from the disease.
Earlier in a tweet , Rahul remembering his father and the former PM wrote, "Papa you are with me every moment in my heart. I will always try to fulfill the dream which you dreamt for the country."
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said Rajiv Gandhi's single term as a PM will be remembered for his numerous landmark and far- reaching achievements.
Recalling some of his achievements, the Congress MP said, "He deepened the foundations of the IT revolution that has transformed India. He ushered the country into the computer, telecom
and software development era."
The former PM crafted accords that brought peace and development back to
troubled regions of the country like Assam, Punjab, Mizoram and Darjeeling, he added.
"The Indian National Congress salutes this brave son of India and rededicates itself to the ideals he stood for, the principles he upheld, the values he cherished and the causes he championed," the Congress MP said in a statement.
