New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) In his maiden visit to United State of Emirates (UAE) as Congress president, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said Gulf country has announced 2019 as the year of ‘tolerance’ while India is facing ‘intolerance’ from last four and half years.
Addressing a huge gathering of Overseas Indians at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Congress president said now India has been ‘divided’ on caste, religion and on various aspects.
“The values that bring together the people of UAE and India are humility and tolerance; tolerance for different ideas, religions and communities. I am sad to say that back home it is four and a half years of intolerance”, Mr Gandhi alleged.
Referring to his meeting with the Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Congress president said he has experienced humility.
“Great nations are built with that kind of humility, and not arrogance. India cannot move ahead with arrogance, division, and one ideology”, he said.
Listing out the issues that India is facing, Mr Gandhi said millions of people are unemployed in the country and many have lost jobs due to demonetisation, GST and other policies.
“Single biggest problem that we face in India today is unemployment. We need to take this head-on. We need to show the rest of the world that not only we can beat unemployment, but we can also challenge China”, he said
Mr Gandhi also said NRI communities in West Asia, Europe, US and Canada can help to tackle the unemployment problem.
The Congress president said India’s farmers are in big trouble and advocated for a second green revolution and Indian agriculture products reach across the globe.
“Most of the people here are from families of farmer’s. They know how to build life from scratch. We need your effort, experience and technology for it”, Mr Gandhi said.
Stressing that India should move ahead the way of tolerance and non-violence, Mr Gandhi said the Congress is confident to win the coming election and will take up the challenges which India is facing now.
