Mysuru, Oct 5 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday appealed to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to save an injured baby elephant fighting for its life at the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve.
He made this request after visiting the tiger reserve along with his mother and AICC President Sonia Gandhi. During his visit, he came across the baby elephant which is suffering from a severe injury on its tail and trunk.
"The Congress President and I briefly visited Nagarhole Tiger Reserve where we happened to come across the painful sight of an injured baby
elephant, with its mother. The little calf has a severely injured tail and trunk, and is fighting for its life," he said in a letter written to Bommai.
"Therefore, I wanted to cross political boundaries and appeal to your sense of compassion to intervene and save the little elephant. I am confident that it will survive if given proper treatment. I hope you will extend timely assistance to save the iconic little elephant," he said.
Rahul Gandhi is on Bharat Jodo Yatra that entered Karnataka at Gundlupet on September 30 night.
Earlier, Sonia Gandhi visited a Hindu temple at HD Kote near Mysuru and offered Dasara prayers. She will participate in the yatra which will resume tomorrow after a two-day break due to Dasara festivals.
