New Delhi May 23 (UNI) Days after the Gujarat scrapped the Par -Tapi- Narmada link project, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said on Monday, it was a big victory for the tribal people of the state.
The tribal people in the areas are opposing the project as they fear that they might be displayed due to it.
On Facebook post, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that "This is a big victory for the tribals. The Congress party has always been raising the voice of the rights of the tribals and we will continue to raise your voice without fear, without bowing down."
"When the Congress government comes to power in Gujarat, we will give priority to protecting your water, forest and land" he added.
Recalling his speech on 10 May, 2022, in Dahod Rahul wrote that , "I had said that as soon as the Congress government comes in Gujarat, we will first stop the 'Tapi-Narmada Link Project'. 10 days later, under pressure from the tribals and the Congress party, the BJP government of Gujarat cancelled the project".
The river link project was announced in this year's financial budget by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Since then, there has been a huge protest against the project by the tribal people living in the area.
