Rahul assures SCS to AP if voted to power

Kurnool, Sep 18 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi assured to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh, if the Congress was voted to power in 2019 elections.
Mr Gandhi interacted with a group of students in the Byreddy convention centre here on Tuesday as part of his visit.
He answered to many questions asked by the students including on the GST and demonetization. Mr Gandhi told them China generates 50,000 employment per day while only 450 jobs are created in India.
While addressing the students, the AICC President assured to grant SCS to the state. “The SCS is the right of people of AP. During the bifurcation of United AP state, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured in the Parliament to accord SCS to AP. The first thing we do after coming to power at the Centre is to accord SCS to AP” he said.
He slammed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not fulfill the assurance given by Mr Manmohan Singh.
Mr Gandhi appreciated the functioning of self-help groups in the state.
After having lunch in the state guest house, he held a meeting with minority leaders. He would pay floral tributes to former Chief Minister K Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy and address a group of farmers at Kisan ghat.
Later he would address a public meeting in the STBC college premises in the evening.
Elaborate security arrangements were made for the public meeting as the leaders expect over one lakh people would attend.
Earlier, Mr Rahul reaached Pedapadu village and paid floral tributes to former Chief Minister of combined AP state Damodaram Sanjivaiah by garlanding his portrait and interacted with his family members.
Congress Senior leaders, including APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy, Congress AP affairs in-charge Oommen Chandy, former Union Ministers Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, J D Seelam, Panabaka Lakshmi and K Kruparani accompanied him.
