New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) Display of cultural extravaganza, hoisting of tricolour and singing of national anthem and patriotic songs across the world in embassies and Indian missions marked the celebration of the 71st Republic Day on Sunday.
However, the Indian Embassy in China has cancelled the Republic Day ceremony in view of the corona virus outbreak.
"In view of the evolving situation due to the corona virus outbreak in China as well as the decision of Chinese authorities to cancel public gathering and events, the Embassy of India in Beijing has also decided to call off the Republic Day reception scheduled to be held at the Embassy of India, Beijing on January 26th," a note from the embassy has said.
"We take this occasion to wish all the Indian expatriate community in China a very happy Republic Day," the note added.
The Indian High Commission in Pakistan celebrated the day with Charge d'affaires Gaurav Ahluwalia hoisting the tricolour.
"High Commission of India in Pakistan celebrated the 71st Republic Day with great enthusiasm and joy," the Indian High Commission in Islamabad tweeted.
The High Commission of India in Canberra, Australia, organised the event at the India House.
"Consulate General of India Melbourne wishes you all a very Happy Republic Day 2020. Big 'Thank You' to everyone for celebrating this day with us," it said.
Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu led the Indian community during the celebrations.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, along with his wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa, joined the Indian diaspora to celebrate the day.
"I would like to wish the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and people of India a very Happy 71st Republic Day," Mr Rajapaksa tweeted.
A large number of people in the Netherlands participated in the Republic Day celebrations at Wassenaar.
In Bangladesh, High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das hoisted the national flag and read out President Ram Nath Kovind's address.
"Young Children from the Indian Community presented a cultural program. Members of the Indian Community participated in large numbers," the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said.
In Nepal, members of the Indian community, friends of India and officials participated in the Republic Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Indian Ambassador to Israel Sanjeev Singla hoisted the national flag and read out the President's message at the Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Indian Ambassador to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir hoisted the national flag and led the Indian community to celebrate the day.
Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also took to Twitter to extend greetings on the occasion.
President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also took to twitter stating: "Warm greetings and felicitations to President Kovind, PM Narendra Modi and the friendly people of India on India’s 71st Republic Day".
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the president of Maldives and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for their Republic Day greetings.
"Thank you the greetings on India's Republic Day, President Solih. It is a matter of immense delight that friendship between India and Maldives is getting even stronger, benefitting the people of our nations," PM tweeted.
Mr Modi also thanked Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa for the Republic Day wishes.
"India cherishes the deep rooted friendship with Sri Lanka," he wrote.
