Quality of rural roads will improve remarkably as cabinet approves new policy:Secretary

Patna, Nov 4 (UNI) Secretary of Bihar Rural Works Departments (RWD) Vinay Kumar said today that quality of Rural Roads in the state would be improved considerably after decision of the state government to approve new rural roads maintenance and inspection policy 2018 yesterday.
Mr Kumar told media here that the state cabinet had approved new rural roads maintenance and inspection policy 2018 yesterday which had now been enforced with immediate effect. The earlier policy of rural road maintenance and inspections framed in the year 2013 was not found to be sufficient to maintain quality of roads in rural areas and hence the need to frame a new policy was felt, he added.
"The new policy is based on output and performance and service level criteria besides response time have been fixed to ensure it", Secretary said, adding that important components to ensure its compliance are-- paved roads, shoulders and embankments, drainage including culverts and major-minor bridges, signage and road safety besides vegetation. Service level, international roughness index, bituminous layer and percentage of bituminous used in construction of roads would be among important indicators to assess the quality of roads under the new policy, he added.
