PV Sindhu dismisses reports of rift with family, coach Gopichand

PV Sindhu dismisses reports of rift with family, coach Gopichand

New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) World badminton champion PV Sindhu on Tuesday dismissed the reports of any rift with her family and coach Pullela Gopichand, saying that she is in London to work on her nutrition and recovery needs.
Sindhu has been in London for the last 10 days and posted a picture with sports nutritionist Rebecca Randell of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI), her training base, on her social media page on Monday.
A report had earlier claimed that Sindhu left the country and travelled to the United Kingdom due to tensions in her family.
The Olympic silver medallist took to social media and denied any rift with her family or coach Pullela Gopichand, adding that she had left the country with the consent of her parents and is in continuous touch with the members of her family.
"I came to London a few days back to work on my nutrition and recovery needs with GSSI. In fact, I have come here with the consent of my parents and absolutely they were no family rifts in this regard. Why will I have problems/issues with my parents who have sacrificed their lives for my sake," Sindhu said in a statement posted on Twitter on Tuesday.
"Mine is a very close-knitted family and they will always support me. I am in touch with my family members every day. Also, I do not have any issues with my coach Mr Gopichand or the training facilities at the academy," she added.
The Indian star had missed the recently-concluded Denmark Open Super 750 tournament. However, she is gearing up for the Asia leg of the adjusted Badminton World Federation’s calendar, scheduled in January next year.
The BWF was forced to move the World Tour Finals (January 27-31) and the two Asia opens (January 12-17 and January 19-24) to Bangkok due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
