Punjab will fight every bullying to protect its right:Jakhar

Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Oct 29 (UNI) Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunil Jakhar termed the thinking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as fatal for the entire country and said the policies of the BJP government would adversely affect not only the farmers but every section of the society.
But at the same time he said Punjab would fight every bullying of the Modi government with full courage and conscience to protect the rights of the people of its country.

NGO claims gas tragedy survivors at increased health risk

Bhopal, Dec 1 (UNI) A non-governmental organisation claimed on Tuesday that there is significantly higher prevalence of obesity and thyroid disorders among survivors of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
In a release, the Sambhavna Trust Clinic said that analysis of data on Body Mass Index and diagnosis of thyroid malfunction of 27,155 individuals under its care for the past one-and-a-half decades reveals that persons exposed to Union Carbide’s deadly vapours were 2.75 times more likely to be overweight and 1.92 times more likely to suffer thyroid complications. These people are likely vulnerable to diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, osteoarthritis and cancers of the liver, kidney, breast and ovary besides other maladies.

Outlaws abduct villager

Shivpuri, MP, Dec 1 (UNI) A 37-year-old grazier from Rajasthan was abducted by a few bandits in the vicinity of Gorakh Tila village on Tuesday, law-enforcement authorities said.
The incident occurred when Munshi and his cattle were present in the Kolaras forest. His companion Ganpat Ram was sent bearing a ransom demand.

Aadi Mahotsav-MP a treat for culture buffs

Bhopal, Dec 1 (UNI) Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Tuesday launched the online edition of the Aadi Mahotsav-Madhya Pradesh – a ten-day-long event being hosted on www.tribesindia.com and focussing on the state’s adivasi craft and culture, it was officially learnt.
Speaking on the occasion, the senior politician averred, “It is another endeavour to assist in transformation of lives and livelihoods. Indeed, this is a national festival and a combined initiative of my Ministry plus the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India.”

The highlights include a virtual tour of artisans’ workplaces and glimpses of dance plus music. Natural produce is on display. In essence, it is a celebration of tribes and their diverse lifestyle but on a different platform.
