Punjab to put Barcode, QR code to ensure supply of genuine seeds to farmers

Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) In another farmer-friendly initiative that will protect the farmers from unscrupulous traders selling fake or low-quality seeds, Punjab has decided to deploy advanced certification technology, including Barcodes and QR codes, to ensure that farmers get genuine seeds of various crops, including wheat and rice.
Encouraged by a successful project for potato crop seeds, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh approved the deployment of advanced traceability certification through blockchain technology, to ensure that the ryots were not cheated with fake and uncertified seeds.
The certified seeds will be distribute to farmers in the coming seasons, beginning with 1.50 lakh quintal seeds of fodder, oil and cereal crops to be cultivated by Punjab State Seed Corporation (PUNSEED) across 10,000 acres of land, the Chief Minister said.

Srinagar, Apr 18 (UNI) Authorities cracked a whip against traffic violators at the tourist resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Thursday.
A joint team of officers lead by Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Waseem Raja and accompanied by Tehsildar Gulmarg, officers of Motor Vehicle department ,Traffic Department, Police and municipality today launched enforcement drive in Gulmarg to curb the problems of traffic Jam, wrong parking and to ensure hassle free flow of traffic for convenience of tourists
“The enforcement drive was carried out to encourage active engagement from the community, including pedestrians, and public transport users in promoting a culture of responsibility and adherence to traffic laws,” officials said.
