Pune to host the sixth edition of Marathi Film Festival

Pune, May 16 (UNI) The much-awaited sixth edition of the popular Marathi Film Festival is all set to take place in Pune from May 22 to 24, 2026, celebrating the creativity, diversity, and evolving storytelling of Marathi cinema. The three-day festival will witness the presence of renowned actors, directors, filmmakers, and cinema enthusiasts from across the Marathi film industry.
Over the past five editions, the festival has earned a special place among movie lovers in Maharashtra by showcasing the rich legacy of Marathi cinema along with contemporary narratives and innovative regional storytelling styles. It is now regarded as one of the state’s significant film festivals.
This year’s festival will feature screenings of contemporary films as well as special showcases of timeless Marathi classics including 'Jait Re Jait', 'Tighi', 'Gondhal', and 'Dashavatar'. The event will also host panel discussions, interactive sessions with filmmakers and actors, and special seminars on the changing trends in regional storytelling.
Prominent personalities from the Marathi film industry including Mahesh Manjrekar, Amruta Subhash, Girish Kulkarni, Shivraj Waichal, and Siddharth Jadhav are expected to attend the festival.
One of the major highlights of this year’s event will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran actress Suhas Joshi in recognition of her remarkable contribution to Marathi theatre and cinema spanning over five decades.
To encourage emerging filmmakers and next-generation storytellers, the festival will also organize a short film competition in collaboration with the Film Critics Guild and noted film critic Anupama Chopra.
Speaking about the festival, Nisha Narayanan, Director and COO of Red FM, said that regional stories deserve a wider cultural platform and the festival aims to celebrate the creativity of Marathi cinema while providing opportunities for new voices and storytellers.
