Pune: Prices touch sky, authorities ease woes

Pune, Mar 26 (UNI) As vegetable prices skyrocketed in the second largest city of Maharashtra amid the countrywide lockdown, the authorities, here on Thursday, approved sale of fresh vegetables directly procured from farmers, at 68 places in the city, bringing some respite to the populace.

There are 2 to 4 spots in every ward where people can buy vegetables.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad said that people can place orders about their requirements on mobile phone of agriculture groups. 'The vegetables will be sold at reasonable rates.

People can either order for home delivery or buy vegetables from designated spots near their homes', he noted.

The predicament, emerged after some vendors were seen selling potatoes, tomatoes and onions at higher prices, due to the shortage of supplies.

The PMC approved vendors are expected to sell vegetables at designated places from March 26.
