Puducherry CM satisfied with trip to New Delhi

Puducherry, June 25 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today expressed satisfaction on his visit to New Delhi, the first one after the Congress-DMK government assumed power here, as the Ministers including the Prime Minister assured to look into the grievances of the Union territory.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr.Narayansamy said that they met Union Ministers including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised the problems of the Union territory including financial requirements.
Detailing, Mr Narayansamy said his government convened a high level meeting and discussed abut the financial position of the union territory. It was found that since Puducherry was not a member in the Central Finance Commission of the Finance commission for the Union territories, it could not obtain funds properly from the centre. He said while the states which are members of the finance commission is getting 15 percent enhancement every year in non-plan sector, Puducherry is getting only Rs.600 crores under the sector for the last five years. It should have received a sum of Rs.1600 crores now, if it was a member of the finance commission. He said the revenue mobilisation in Puducherry is Rs.3000 crores and no more tax could be imposed and hence, central funding is the only source for the development of Puducherry. He said these facts were apprised to the Prime Minister and urged to include Puducherry in the central finance commission or the finance commission for the Union Territories.
