Protesting workers of Chinese Garment factory attacked in Myanmar, dozens injured

Yangon, Oct 16 (UNI) Clashes hit a Chinese owned garment factory, Fu Yuen, in Myanmar when the workers protesting against the owner of the factory were attacked by a mob of ‘hired thugs’.
Nearly two months ago, predominantly the female workers had started complaining over the alleged poor conditions and mistreatment at work place, especially in a country which is becoming Asia's latest hub for low-cost clothing.
“More than 40 thugs came and started to beat us with wooden sticks and metal bars”, said channel news Asia quoting a female protestor.
The violence escalated after nearly 28 persons were injured in the clashes and the local people retaliated by throwing rocks and sticks at the factory.
Around two dozen riot police immediately rushed to the spot, to pacify the crowd.
No arrests have yet been confirmed.
