Protest against CAA now become ‘Movement for idea of India”: Civil Society activists

Hyderabad, Jan 17 (UNI) Civil Society activists and Youth on Friday said that the protest against NRC-CAA-NPR have now become a Movement for the idea of India.
Addressing at 3-hour interactive talk on Citizenship, Constitutionality and Society Justice: CAA-NRC-NPR and Beyond , organised under the nationwide banner ‘We the People ‘by Citizens Against NRC-CAA-NPR, a platform of civil society activists and youth here, Social Activist Yogendra Yadav and Anti-caste Activist and Justice for Rohith Movement leader Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohit Vemula, gave a call to citizens of all religions and communities to come onto the streets to protect Social Justice and the Indian Constitution, and protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
The event was also observed, marking the 4th martyrdom anniversary of Shasheed Rohit Vemula, HCU scholar to focus on the deplorable state of social justice in the country under the current regime and how these decisions have huge and adverse impact on lives of lakhs of dalits, adivasis, muslims, women, transgender persons and other marginalized people.
Speaking about the CAA-NRC-NPR process going against the basic principles of justice and equality at the event, Prof.Asma Rasheed of EFLU and Hyderabad Muslim Women’s Forum (HMWF), said “The Citizenship Amendment Act is clearly unconstitutional, and the whole NRC-NPR process is against social justice.”
P.Shankar from Dalit Bahujan Front (DBF), said, “I don’t have an official birth certificate. The date of birth in my records was not written by my parents but by my teacher in the school records. Does it mean that I am not a citizen? Who are Amit Shah and Modi to dictate whether I am a citizen or not? This matter should be of concern not only to Muslims but all of us, especially all Dalits and marginalized communities.”
